AVBOB Claim Options

As you may know, there are two options when it’s time to submit a claim. You can either take cash only, or cash with services. There is not a wrong and a right option. It depends on your needs. Both options have advantages. We will explain below the basics of each. You do not have to decide on any option when you take out your policy. The beneficiary decides the best option at the time of the claim.

Cash & Burial Services

With this option, your beneficiary can use the cash payout to pay for services directly with AVBOB. This is an amazing benefit. One of the major advantages of this option is all the free services. If the beneficiary makes use of AVBOB to arrange everything, there will be lots of free services & discounts. For example, over and above the cash, there will be a free basic funeral of up to *R9600. This option is best for people who do not want any hassle. You do not have to shop around for services. You can get everything done from one provider.  We strongly suggest you look at this option. Not only do you increase the payout value, you also get the convenience. Once all the selected services are paid, the remaining money will still go to the family. You decide what service you want to use or not.

Cash Only

This option turns the policy into a normal cash policy. Some people would prefer this option as you have the option to shop around. You can find the best provider for every service. For example, you can buy flowers from one provider and a coffin from another. The advantage here is you can potentially save money on certain items & services. This option usually works best for a person who has a little experience. It’s important to know what service to arrange when you plan for a burial. Not everybody knows exactly what to do when they plan a burial.


Both options are great. It depends on your needs. If you want a hassle free option, we suggest looking at cash & services. Not only is it a lot easier, you also get a lot of extra value. If you want to shop around for your own providers, the cash option might be better. At the end of the day, it’s all about what you need at the time. Luckily, you do not have to decide until it’s time to claim. AVBOB claims department will give you the option at the time of the claim. You do not pay more for the services policy. It’s the same policy. You can choose the most relevant option at the time.
